On Melbourne Cup day we celebrated the 25th anniversary of Barwon Ridge. In 1998, after a hunt of 2 years, Joan and I found the land we were looking for in the Barrabool Hills. A frantic year of organising followed and by spring 1999 the 3.6 hr of vineyard was planted. We started the venture with Ken King as our partner. Later Joan and I took over the business while Ken focussed on his vineyard at Kangaroo Ground.
Right from the start the success of Barwon Ridge has been built on the countless hours of work that friends have contributed, and on the support of our customers. Cup day was a chance to say thank you to many of those who have helped.
Some of the achievements over the years have included multiple awards and several trophies for the wines, an award for the cellar door, a Chamber of Commerce award for our Sustainable and Innovative business, conversion of two dry paddocks into a beautiful forest that is now full of wildlife, construction of the new native gardens and the club lounge to relax in, and certification of the vineyard as sustainable.
My plan is to keep improving the vineyard, the wines and the whole property.
Thank you again to all those who have contributed.
